David Oppenheim is one of a selected few who deserves his place in Team Full Tilt, because of his charismatic personality in the poker room, and his effective strategy in the game. David has achieved the success he deserves in a world full of highly-competitive players.

David’s exposure to poker was cultivated in his college years. What started out as a hobby began to grow into passion and excitement for David. He learned the game as much as he can and read more about it. He played the game when there was enough free time. One day, he left school and decided to play poker as a profession, David engaged in games that involved around $300 to $600. Soon, he would compete in major live tournaments that required bigger buy-ins. David was able to make a convincing third place finish in the 2003 Borgata Poker Open $5,000 No-limit Holdem Championship. This experience helped David improve his game more, and later on he participated in the 2006 World Poker Tour No-limit Holdem Event. He made a very impressive 3rd place finish and gained a lot of praise. David continues to compete in online and live tournaments and never fails to surprise everyone.

David is not only a highly-talented player, but a well-rounded person as well. He spends his time playing golf, or simply swinging in the driving range. David is also fond of reading and traveling around the world. Outside the poker room, David is a very humble person. Presently, David has a wife and three kids whom he spends as much time to be with them as he can. David is a complete poker player and a family man.

Poker was a family tradition that was passed from generation to generation in the case of professional poker player Phil Gordon. It was his Aunt Lib who taught him the basics of poker, and his sisters who helped him develop his skills by practicing with him over a game or two. They would play around during family gatherings, everyone participating in Five Card Draw with penny antes and very low stakes. This occurred almost every night, and everyone in Phil’s family was a poker fan. Phil, the progidy of his family, grew to love the game and he continued to hone his skill well into adulthood. Phil was good in school. He started college at the tender age of 15. He possessed a scholarship for a computer science degree, which he finished at the age of 20. Even though he dropped out of high school to attend college, his academic standing was remarkable, and this prompted his family members to call him a genius juvenile delinquent. He immediately found a job, working for several information technology and computer manufacturing companies as a software engineer. He was also one of the company’s first employees, prompting him to earn big when they started to make millions of dollars in stocks.

However, Phil’s hobby was growing more persistent – poker was seemingly his calling, and he had the urge to play poker as a professional, full time. When he did, he played big. Phil finished fourth during the WSOP Championship back in 2001 and his proceeding victories took the poke world by storm. In 2002, he was able to enter the coveted final table of two championships. He made waves both on the internet and in land casinos. He was invited by the biggest names to join by-invitation tournaments and his winning streak amazed everyone. Phil continues to play professional poker up to this day, practicing daily to keep his skills sharp.

With two successful degrees from the prestigious MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and a completed law degree from the world renowned Harvard University, Andy Bloch can be either a lawyer or an engineer. In fact, he can be anything he wants to be. But he chose to be a poker player. Perhaps it is the prospect of winning millions overnight, or maybe it’s just that the typical nine to five job is a complete turn off to anyone, but Andy Block chose a career in playing cards. He was already hooked on gambling early on, being a popular member of MIT’s blackjack team. Upon learning the ins and outs of how the game of poker works, he was quick to make his mark in the world of poker. He took it seriously, winning three major tournaments and earning more than two million US dollars.

Like most players, Andy’s initial goal for engaging in gambling was to finance his studies. This was the gap between his graduation from MIT and his initial year at Harvard Law School. Obviously, such a prestigious degree doesn’t come cheap, and Andy needed to work his way through school. He paid his way through Harvard by playing heavy blackjack. Of course, this was aside from doing homework, designing computer chips on the side, and practicing with the MIT blackjack team. The big surprise and the main irony here is that in financing his education, he found a new career path altogether! Andy insists that his newfound career in the form of professional poker playing is deeply rooted in mathematics, hence he’s applying what he learned from MIT. He had no intentions of making this a long-term endeavor, but it was just too lucrative to give up. Not everyone is blessed with the skills needed for a victorious poker tournament, so Andy should definitely hold on to it for as long as he can – this is a once in a lifetime experience, after all.

Gustav Hansen is now a worldwide poker sensation, but he originated from the small region of Copenhagen in Denmark. Also, he was never really trained as a poker player – he had extensive training for backgammon, and proceeded to become one of the best backgammon players in the world. Aside from that, Gus also engaged heavily in sports betting when he was younger. He was also a champion tennis player during his youth. With these endeavors, two things were made clear about Gus: he was an active gambler, and his competitive spirit was undeniably strong. This makes him an excellent candidate for playing poker professionally. He realized that the opportunities presented by being a professional backgammon player were thin and few when he moved to New York to pursue this career. Because of this, he decided to engage in other, more lucrative activities – poker was one of them. It was a good decision that has paid off. In fact, it’s still helping him rake in the millions. What makes Gus a great poker player is his style of playing. It is so unpredictable it can pass for the poker face of techniques.

Sometimes aggressive and sometimes passive, Gus does a good job of confusing his opponents and uses this to his advantage. Because of his unique playing style, he can convince his opponents to raise, call or even play all in whether he has the best hand or worst hand out of everyone else. A celebrity in his own right, Gus has already won three of the prestigious World Poker Tours, making it to the Walk of Fame back in the year 2004. The very same year, he was voted as one of People Magazine’s 50 Sexiest Men Alive in the world. Living in Monte Carlo, Gus is single and definitely not looking to get tied down anytime soon.

Allen Cunningham was one of the poker players who took his studies seriously. His first exposure to poker was in some unknown casino in India when he was only 18 years of age. Allen learned the game, loved the game, and started to master it. He started making waves in the poker scene back in 1998, the period that changed the game of poker as a profitable game, given the right amount of talent and perseverance on the part of a player. While playing poker ever so often for the sake of profit, he was trying to achieve his degree in civil engineering from UCLA. His winnings came in slow and sparingly, but he was consistently on an uphill slope until he started hitting jackpot after jackpot in 1999. It was the big break he needed; the year where he won six major poker tournaments and put himself on the list of poker players to watch out for. Motivated by this enormous success, Allen decided to drop out of UCLA so that he can play poker full time and on a professional level.

Allen is one of the youngest poker players who has achieved such an amazing level of success. Only 30 years old, his total winnings from poker amount to 9.86 million US dollars – a net worth of almost 10 million, and he’s only on his third decade on earth! That amount came from finishing in first place 16 times. With his numerous awards from prestigious poker tournaments, this college student turned professional poker player proved to the world that his decision was absolutely right. He has no less than 5 World Series of Poker Bracelets under his belt, each for a different game. These include Seven Card Stud, Deuce to Seven Lowball, No Limit Texas Hold’em and Pot Limit Texas Hold’em.

Mike Matusow is affectionately called “The Mouth” by his peers in poker, a nickname coined because he loved to talk. Almost finishing off his fourth decade here, Mike was born in LA on 1968. At a young age, he’s always been competitive and hyperactive, always thirsty for knowledge and new games to play. His main goal when engaging in competition was to win – not for money or bets, but really just to achieve the thrill of victory. He took up a job of becoming a poker dealer and used this opportunity to learn about poker, dealing cards, winning strategies, tips for poker players and all kinds of things that will help him improve his game. He started analyzing the gaming strategies and how each of the poker players made a call. When he had gathered enough information, he was able to build up his confidence as a poker player and this prompted him to join his first small scale poker tournament, which he was able to win.

Motivated by the positive results, he started joining more and more small tournements around the country. Soon, he found his confidence increasing as stradily as his net worth did. He was successful in his endeavors and up to this day holds the title of being the best Omaha Eight or Better player in the world. He has made the final table, won the WSOP Bracelet, finished second place in WSP, and consistently finishes among the top players of poker tournaments. He may be raking in millions from playing professional poker, but his personal life took a toll because of his gambling lifestyle. Mike found himself in prison because of drugs in the year 2005. Currently, he is rebuilding his life as a drug free poker player with the help of close friends and poker colleagues.
