Lowball Poker uses a style wherein the low poker hands are the winning hands. Lowball Poker is also played in different styles, depending on players’ preferences. Some players may prefer considering the ace as a high card whereas other would prefer the ace as a low card. Or, some players would choose to use straights and flushes, while some would rather not include them in the game. Lowball is played in different styles such as Ace-to-five low, Ace-to-six-low, Deuce-to-seven low, and Deuce-to-six-low.
In Ace-to-five low, the combination 5-4-3-2-A is the lowest possible hand. This combination is also known as the wheel. In this style, the ace is considered a low card. The style also does not include straights and flushes in the game.
In Ace-to-six low,the combination 6-4-3-2-A is the lowest possible hand. In this style, the ace is considered a low card as well. This time, straights and flushes are used, and they are considered high hands. This style is also known as the 6-4 low.
In Deuce-to-seven low, the combination 7-5-4-3-2 is the lowest possible hand. The ace is considered a high card. The straights and flushes are also used and considered as high hands. This style is also referred to as the 7-5 low.
Finally, in the Deuce-to-six low, the ace is regarded as a high card. The straights and flushes are not used in this style.
Lowball is available in a couple of variations such as California Lowball, Kansas Coy Lowball, Razz, Triple Draw, London Lowball. Depending on the game, Lowball can involve a high-low split. In this split pot method, the player with the high hand splits the pot with the player holding the lowest hand.
